Medical Transcription

Diploma

This program is an AHDI approved program of study.

 

The one-year Medical Transcription major prepares students for careers  transcribing medical reports from health care providers.  Instructional components include keyboarding, medical terminology, anatomy, grammar, medical disorders, pharmacology, and AAMT rules of style.  Students who successfully complete the program will have the necessary skills to sit for the RMT exam.

 

Prerequisite skills: Participants should be proficient in grammar, punctuation, and spelling and be able to type at least 50 corrected words per minute.

Instructional Materials

 

The books needed for each class are listed on the course information pages found in the curriculum section above. Students need a computer with Internet access, a CD player, and speakers.  Additional accessories needed are a headset and foot pedal.

  • Headsets can be purchased at office supply stores.

  • Foot pedals compatible with the ports on the student's computer can be purchased through the bookstore at the same time the books are ordered
